OVERVIEW

Advances in neuroscience have led to a better understanding of how trauma and neglect affects brain development and ongoing brain functioning.  We now know how to best help children heal and build resiliency.  This training will discuss brain development and functioning, including how this is affected by trauma, neglect, and adverse life events, in an easy to understand manner.  Parents, professionals, teachers, and others will learn the most effective strategies to use to help children heal.

About The Presenter

Dr. Sam Rübezahl, Ph.D., RKA, Watertown NY

Dr. Sam Rubenzahl has over 20 years of experience as a clinical-child psychologist.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College and his doctoral degree from Southern Illinois University.  He was the Chief Psychologist and Coordinator of Children’s Services for Lewis County Mental Health for over a decade.  For the past 12 years he has been the co-owner of RKA Psychological Services, which has offices in Watertown and Lowville.  He treats children, adolescents, and adults; provides family therapy; conducts psychological testing; testifies as an expert witness in Family Court and Criminal Court; and provides consultation and trainings.
